why is it?

last week, lala was the superstar in preschool. they wanted some pictures of her to put on the superstar board. as i went through our files of photos on the computer, i was reminded of what a cute baby lala was. i found baby pictures and toddler pictures and current pictures of our sweet lala. then, i started looking for pictures of lala and her sisters. it was then that i realized that i didn't even have one recent picture of the three girls together.

why is that? i have pictures of lala and nani. i have pictures of lala and kawena. i have pictures of nani and kawena. but, not one picture of nani, lala, and kawena.

after church that week, the girls wanted me to do a photo shoot of them because they were all matching (well, nani and lala were matching. the baby just had a blue dress on in an attempt to make her look like she was matching). i thought, "hey, this is a great opportunity to get pictures of all three of them in the same shot!"

it was during this photo shoot that i remembered why i didn't have any pictures of the three girls together!

why is it that when you are trying to photograph three very active girls that in every single shot at least one of them is not looking, or not smiling, or goofing off, or getting annoyed with someone, or....you get the picture?!

well, this time it was no diffrent! let me walk you through our little photo shoot! (the rocking horse prop and the location were the girls idea!)

uh, okay, why did i even take this picture? what is up with lala's hair? that would drive me crazy if my hair was in my face like that! doesn't seem to phase her! we need to get that hair out of her face pronto! nani and kawena look great, though!

the hair looks much better, lala! but, kawena looks like she is getting smashed by lala. nani, while still smiling for the camera, is trying to unsmash the baby by pulling lala back! but lala looks cute!

then there is this one! not too bad, except for the part that you can't see all of lala's face!

by this point, nani's smile is getting a little wilted and kawena's finally had enough of lala laying on her. looks like kawena's about to backhand lala! but lala does look pretty cute, though her head is a little off kilter!

now, at this point, i think they'd all had it and they were just getting a bit silly. nani looks like she might be trying to straighten her sisters out, but kawena and lala are just having too much fun to care!

then, there is this one! this is definitely my favorite picture of lala! i don't even know what is up with her face here! and her hair is creeping back into her eyes!

of all of the shots i took, this one was the very best! if only lala's hair had stayed out of her face....and i wouldn't have minded at all if she would have leaned in a little more to her left! but i'll take it!

I noticed the same thing the other day when I was looking through our pictures for a scrapbook page- No pictures of all the kids together.
I love the shot you ended up with, and thanks for sharing the misfires- its nice to know that my kids arent the only ones that pull that stuff lol.

It was great to see the progression of the photo session. You should be awarded for your bravery. This post is a lovely reminder of how beautiful your girls are. I will admit that I'm still surprised every time I see Nani with lots of hair. I'm just so accustomed to that bald baby head but I guess that's been a while. :-)

I believe the technical term for this phenomena is "critical mass," and we used to reach it with just two girls in the photo shoot. Moving targets are hard!

We finally got some relief by offering to allow the girls to take a "silly face" picture after we got a good one. Now we treasure the silly picture almost as much as the "good" one.

BTW, cute kids!

This reminds me of Michal's post with the 3 boys by the "cool rock" :-)
So funny!
I liked the 3 of them around the watering hole picture...only no faces!

Hehe... My favorite is the look on Lala's face in pic #6. It says "Mom are we done yet??".

I love that one of Lala where she looks completely dazed and confused! I know the pain of trying to get three kids to ALL look good at the same time. Nearly impossible.

This sounds way to familiar! Your girls still look gorgeous in all the not quite perfect shots though.

I can't even get a cute picture of my two boys so I am way impressed with your pictures of the three girls.

After having children I have so much respect for professional portrait photographers.

It's o.k., just keep trying and showing em to us. Love it. Is everyone healthy now? Give em all a Tutu Hug.

We've all been there. Family pictures are torture! There is usually one person that looks cute in each photo...Maybe next time just crop out everyone's good picture and make a collage of cute faces!

You girls are adorable regardless of hair in the face and silly faces.

I think I'm a weirdo because some of my favorite types of photos are ones that catch them in action - no posing. I thought they were all SO cute! I loved the last one, as well as the rest. Beautiful girls!!

You have gorgeous girls, even if lala looks a bit like cousin it sometimes:0)The last picture is very precious and the coloring in it is very cool!

Just remembered this post about a picture of my girls, and thought you might enjoy it...

ahhh, kids! they sure are cute, though. i just hate how hard it is to prove it through pictures sometimes! mine NEVER look good all at the same time--at least, we've rarely caught it.
i do love the watering hole picture, though.

Your.girls.are.so. BEAUTIFUL!!!!!

I can't get a picture of all 3 of mine looking where I need them to, either. It is kind of funny to look back at all the attempts, though...even though I get irritated during the picture taking process.

Seriously, they are such beautiful children.

I taught my class and read your blog post about, being a, "Great Mom". The audience LOVED it and we talked about how you just have to look at things in a positive way. Thank you so much for letting me share it.

I read your last post, too. Aren't antibiotics the best! I have to pause sometimes and remember that if I lived 100 years ago my kids could have been deathly ill if it weren't for antibiotics. Lately, I have been forgetting to give them the entire dose, though...I could kick myself for not keeping up with dosing sometimes!

Such great pictures it's amazing how different all of your girls look. They all look like sisters but they really each have their own thing going, I love it.

I love the hair in the face...besides, it's what she looked like at this age, so go with it! The last time I took pics of the 4 kids, we'd get the kids situated and then Rachael would lean over and kiss Simeon...very cute, but not what I was hoping for!:) I finally gave up and went with the kiss. No matter how the pics turn out, they are all happy memories.

I think Nani looks SO much like Mitch and the other two look SO much like you, but they all look alike...genes are so interesting.

Beautiful!

Amen girl. I only have one kid and I can't get a decent picture. I'm not even going to think about what it must be like with 3 kids! Cute final shot. I looks great!
