our evening of lights

for the fourth of july we had our 3rd annual bbq with the dimit's down the street. after too much food was consumed we waddled out to the street for the fireworks display.

kawena had been outside watching some fireworks that were being set off by some neighbors down the street and seemed to be enjoying them. however, the enjoyment turned to terror when the first one of our fireworks was lit.

scared kawena

apparently, the close proximity was too much for her.  it was all too loud and too bright and scary. here's a close-up of our poor baby as her lip begins to pout out just before the screaming started:

scared kawena close

this is were we spent the rest of the evening watching the fireworks, all warm and comfy in the la-Z boy chair inside the house: scared kawena inside

she was perfectly happy inside. every once in awhile i'd ask if she wanted to go outside and she would say "jes" (yes). i'd get up and walk to the door and she would start to whimper! needless to say we stayed inside until it was all over!

the sparklers were a favorite of the kids! they make the funniest pictures, too. i was bummed that i didn't have my tripod, we lost the attachment. these would have been much clearer had i not had to hand hold the camera with the shutter open for so long! they still turned out fun, though!

lala sparkler lala

nani sparkler nani

nani2 sparkler nani

fireworks are something that our little ones have needed to get used to. i remember we had to watch fireworks from inside our house for the first 4 years of nani's life. now, it seems, kawena may need a little time to get used to them, as well. lala, on the other hand, never had a problem with them. we have called her, from time to time, our little firecracker, maybe that has something to do with it?!

It sounds like such a good time! I'm with you on the tripod. I just have a little mini one, and it was kind of a waste of money. I'm planning on looking for a better one on Craig's List. I love the shots of your girls with Sparklers. We did ours too early to get any photos.

How Fun!!! Awww poor Kawena looks so sad! It makes for an adorable picture though! I wanted to get some good photos of the fireworks but couldnt in the water... but it was a good thing we didnt bring our big camera... it was sprinkling a little bit so we would have kept it in it bag! Nice sparkler shots! love you!

Poor Kawena. Jake feels the same way about fireworks. But he does love a good sparkler. Cole takes it all in and doesn't seem like he is at all phased. We'll see what next year brings.

Sounds like you had fun! What was that program that you were telling me about for blogging? Windows something? Do you know where I can get it?

Nice post, but LaLa isn't coming up on mine, Thanks for the CD with all the pics. I'm having a little trouble getting them imported to my I photo. I'll have to learn the proper way to do it when I have more time. For now, I'll just open 'em one at a time. They're great! Thank you. Love.

I love your sparklers pictures. They are great. I didn't take any pictures of fireworks this year but it's been fun to see everyone elses.

I LOVE Kawena's pouty lip picture! Ivy was like that last year, but this year had no fear at all. The spakler pictures turned out so cool!

great pictures! your baby looks like she is a little scared, so cute! Hope you are feeling better. You should bring your kiddies over to paula's to swim.

Nothing like some good fireworks for the 4th! My problem is getting my kids to keep their hands OFF of them when they're about to explode. Which is worse? Fear or no fear!? Argh!

Love the pouty lip.

Good think Kawena wasn't with us. We had a firework that tipped over and started shooting everywhere. It hit 2 of our neighbors homes and we were all running like crazy. Whoops.

I miss the good ol days when we lived in a state that allowed sparklers and real fireworks.

Looks like a fun time, I love the picture of Kawena covering her eyes..so cute!

Seriously you have to e-mail me and tell me how you get your fonts!
